Bartle Test of Gamer Psychology
(http://www.gamerdna.com/quizzes/bartle-test-of-gamer-psychology)
After completing the Bartle test of gamer Psychology it determined that in MMORGP games I am a 107 percent explorer. Explorers enjoy wandering around, seeing new things and uncovering hidden knowledge and its creative application. My secondary influence is an Explorer Killer, I enjoy seeing the world, meeting new people, and killing them. Explorer killers enjoy discovery and having an edge over their competition. The test also determined that I am 40 percent socializer and 40 percent achiever. This result means that for my teaching I need to take into consideration the type of gamer my students are when incorporating games and new technologies into my classroom. Discovering the type of gamer my students are can be a part of their biographies, this will tell me a lot more about my students then just the types of games they enjoy.
Ananth Pai Brings Video Games to the Classroom (3rd Grade)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSJ5LwAXxLk
This video was very interesting. The ways Mr. Pai used games to reinforce math concepts gives his class an advantage in multiple ways. His students are learning how to use these new games and different technologies, and they are learning and practicing math concepts. His students are even learning about petitions from videos games. His class is petitioning for technology funding for their classroom and others as well as their school district. I liked that Mr. Pai used Nintendo DS’s, and computer games, theses are great tools to encourage student engagement and motivate students to learn. Mr. Pai is successful at organizing engaging activities into his classroom. I hope that I can be as successful as he is with organizing engaging activities using technology into my school.
The game I created is in the link below. I used http://www.classtools.net/ The site was easy and simple to use for both teachers and students. I chose to make subtraction problems for student grade. The problems allow students to practice math facts that they’ve been learning. I chose 10 problems but many more can be added to the game. Students have the choice of which type of game they would want to play, all of the problems are under each game.
